This beautiful poppy distinguishes itself with it's remarkable petals, that resemble the feathers of a black swan. This is from a variety called Lancinatum, that is known for it's deeply cut, fringed flower petals. On first sight it may seem that the petals are black, while they are actually deep-red.
The milkyjuice is poisonous.
These poppies will be just lovely almost anywhere with full sun and rich, well-drained soil, and will attract bees as well as other beneficial insects.
These plants prefer evenly moist soil, but can tolerate drought. About an inch of water per week is more than sufficient once they are established.
